Slate Floor Cleaning near me? Carpet Cleaning Petaluma is the Choice

A natural stone floor type that makes you feel one with the Earth, Slate flooring is one of the hardest types of floors you can choose for your building. The natural rocky aspect of slate causes the porosity level (how much the stone resists water) to vary depending on the quality of the stone. A good rule of thumb is the more expensive slates, usually the more water resistant it is than cheaper slate floors. If you have a cheaper slate floor, there is a greater chance of liquids and oils to seep in. Without a proper clean, the slate floor may soil. Be sure to properly clean your slate floor, if it is an unsealed floor, brown and black slates have been known to lose a bit of color from too aggressive of cleaning.

Stains are usually resisted on slate floors, although, there are some foods that can bring about stains. Give your slate a shiny, wet look with proper finishing. Do not apply too much wax or heavily finish your floor, as this can decrease the beauty that slate offers.
Depending on the activity of foot traffic, some slate floors have been know to peel and flake. This is more due to the type of rock rather than your floor falling apart. If unsure, check the type of your slate online to see what kind of info you can find regarding your floor.
We offer some tips on what you can do to be keep your slate looking beautiful over the years.
  1. Clean any spills that happen immediately as they occur
  2. Sweep your floor regularly, be sure to catch any loose dust
  3. Mop floor regularly
  4. Use a coaster beneath your glass of liquid, wipe up any liquid as soon as seen.
  5. Regularly clean surface, remember, a little bit of cleaner can go a long way
  6. Do not use the following liquids to clean slate floors                   a) Acidic cleaners, bathroom cleaners, grout cleaner, etc...         b) Vinegar, ammonia, bleach (will damage color of floors)           c) Abrasives                                                                                       d) Dry cleaners that could scratch the floor
  7. Don't clean at a high pressure.
  8. Use a mat in between a heavy or hard objects, that, when moved could damage or scratch your floor.
  9. A small of of water and MILD amount of detergent helps for a cheap clean of your floors. This works well if done every couple months.
  10. If you can find a good sealant that matches your floor type, this is highly recommended to use as it helps prevent future issues.
