Mattress Cleaning Sonoma County - (707) 358-3050
Even in the cleanest home, a mattress can accumulate significant levels of bacteria and dust mites in a short space of time. This is because as we sleep, we sweat and shed dead skin cells. The dead skin cells attract dust mites and our sweat promotes the growth of harmful bacteria, molds and fungus. Mattress covers and protectors have been shown to make little difference to this accumulation as these contaminants easily make their way through the sheet and become lodged within the mattress interior. The dust mites, bacteria and mold can cause breathing difficulties in those suffering from asthma and allergies.Call (707) 358-3050 to get your mattress cleaned on the spot!
Mattresses also tend to acquire unsightly stains due to spillages and soiling, particularly if you have young children. If you or your family routinely awake with irritated eyes, bouts of coughing or allergy symptoms it is more than likely time to have your mattresses cleaned. This is a cost effective alternative to purchasing a new mattress, particularly as though the mattress may be unhygienic it might still be comfortable and supportive enough to ensure a good night’s sleep.
Mattress cleaning, when done by an experienced professional can also be done in a surprisingly short space of time.
The nature of mattresses make them difficult to clean without specialist knowledge and equipment. Normal household cleaning equipment is insufficient to thoroughly clean a mattress. For this reason it is better to use a specialist upholstery cleaner. They will be appropriately equipped and have the necessary experience to return your mattress to a clean and healthy state. This is done in a quick 4 step process which can normally be done in your own home.
First the cleaner will use a specialized vacuum cleaner. This vacuum is more powerful than your normal household vacuum and will be equipped with a special nozzle which gently beats the surface of the mattress to loosen the ingrained dust particles. This process is perhaps the most important as the dust and dust mites ingrained in the mattress are the major cause of asthma and allergies. The exhaust from the vacuum is filtered to prevent the dust escaping into the air of your home.
Once both sides of the mattress have been thoroughly vacuumed, the cleaner will move on to next step, UV-c disinfection. This process uses a powerful UV light, not dissimilar to what you would find in a tanning booth but much more powerful. The UV light is passed over the mattress to kill any bacteria or viruses present. A similar technique is used in water treatment plants and in medical laboratories. This gives testament to its effectiveness as means of sanitation.
When every square inch of the mattress has been treated with UV light, the cleaner will move onto the next phase, dry steaming. You are probably already familiar with the process of steam cleaning as a highly effective method of stain removal. Unfortunately steam cleaning will leave a significant amount of moisture behind. Mattresses are difficult to dry and moisture will promote the growth of harmful mold and bacteria. To prevent this, dry steaming is used. In this process the steam is super-heated to a temperature far beyond what could be reached with a normal steam cleaner. Because the steam has been super-heated it only contains around 4% moisture. Any moisture which does penetrate the mattress evaporates within a few seconds leaving the surface and interior dry. The dry steaming process serves two purposes, its removes stains and the heat will also destroy any remaining bacteria.
The last step in the professional mattress cleaning process is ozone treatment. Ozone is a naturally occurring gas very similar to oxygen. Like the UV process, it is used extensively in water treatment and in laboratories for disinfection. It can kill viruses and bacteria incredibly quickly. Although it is highly efficient at killing bacteria and viruses it quickly decomposes to harmless oxygen making it a safe and effective treatment. The greatest advantage of ozone is its odor neutralizing properties. Though the previous steps are sure to have left your mattress highly clean and sterile there may be some residual odour. The ozone treatment will quickly remove this as it neutralizes any organic material remaining.
The steps above are tried and tested methods for a total mattress cleaning solution. Once they are completed your mattress should look and smell as new. You may find that allergy and asthma problems are greatly improved and you may sleep better knowing you are lying on a clean and safe mattress. Call (707) 358-3050
